Being a typical guy, I love gadgets and anything to do with technology. Usually, the smaller and more powerful the gadget is, the more awesome it becomes.

This article is a list of totally awesome gadgets that are lots of fun and pretty useful to have. It goes against any teachings of minimalism, but hey, sometimes you just gotta spoil yourself and buy something you really want!

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20 14.1 MP Digital Camera

First up is a digital camera. One of my favorite things to do on holidays is take hundreds of pictures. I think pictures are worth so much more than souvenirs and they’re much cheaper too!

This Panasonic Lumix is a very good quality, rather inexpensive digital camera that I have good experience with. I’ve had it for about 4 years and it’s traveled to many countries of the world.

The Flip is an awesome HD camcorder that fits into your pocket. I have one and it’s great to take with you everywhere because you don’t have to worry that it’ll break and cost you a fortune.

The Flip is rather cheap and it produces very good quality HD movies during daylight. When the light is poor and especially at night the quality is horrible though.

Overall it’s perfect to carry with you because those moments you need to get on film are always unexpected and you never have a camcorder with you.

If you’re planning on taking lots of footage for your next holiday or if you want to make videos of your friends and family for future memories or even if you’re planning on making videos for your blog, you will need a decent HD camcorder.

Personally I have a Sony HD camcorder that cost me around $700 and it’s really sweet, but you don’t need to spend that much money on it. Besides, that was over a year ago and technology is improving fast.

This Samsung HD camcorder will provide you with ample high quality footage that is quite a bit better than your Flip or digital camera footage.

Now for the really awesome stuff. This is an alarm clock that has a camcorder hidden inside it. How sneaky and cool is that?

I remember as a kid this was stuff that you only saw in James Bond movies. Now you can get it for yourself for just $80. Crazy cool!

More kickass James Bond style spyware. This is a pen that is actually a spycam. You can record video or audio and take photos, while nobody will ever know that the pen sticking out your shirt pocket is a highly powerful spying device.

Beware though, you need jedi survival skills if you live a life as a spy. You need to cover your tracks and make sure that nobody ever catches you spying on them, because then there will be trouble. Big trouble.

Apple iPhone 4 Black Smartphone 16GB

The iPhone 4 is one piece of seriously amazing technology. Sexy design, more features than you can think of and a totally sweet built-in camera that puts many others to shame.

The only problem is it’s price. If you have to buy it cash like this, it’s a small fortune.

This phone is seriously awesome though, and if your network provider offers it at a special deal with a contract, take it!!



BlackBerry Curve 8900 Javelin Unlocked Phone with 3.2 MP Camera

I’ve never had a Blackberry phone, but so many of my friends are getting them. They only say good things about these phones, and my curiosity is growing.

I’ve heard that Blackberries are super easy to type on, and very simple for navigating online. They are designed for surfing the net and doing email.

And when you look at this price tag compared to the iPhone 4, this seems like a way better deal!



Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 705 HD 720p 3LCD Home Theater Projector

Forget 50″ HD plasma televisions when you can get much bigger picture size for a fraction of the price.

HD projectors are where it’s at baby! This Epson one is pretty sweet and more than enough, but if you really have a lot of money to blow then you can go for top-of-the-range models which cost $2000 or more.

The only downside to projectors is that the bulb lasts for about 400 hours and then you need to replace it (the bulb is expensive and can cost up to $150).

Now if you only watch a couple of movies a week, then an HD projector is the sweetest way to watch it in your home. If you watch 5 hours of TV per day, then it may be expensive buying new bulbs all the time.



Sony HTS-S370 Surround Sound Home Theater System

With a sweet home-cinema setup, you can’t leave out the surround sound! Great sound is essential to enjoying movies to the fullest.

This Sony system is very cool, but may be a tad expensive.

If you want surround sound but don’t want to spend as much, I suggest these Logitech Surround Sound Speakers for $82.99.

The cool thing about a speaker system like this is that you can use it for movies, listening to music and you can even hook it up to your computer.

What home entertainment setup is complete without a gaming console?

The Sony Playstation 3 is ample entertainment, and with the recent release of Gran Turismo 5, that alone is enough reason to get it.

GT5 is a super-realistic racing simulation, and combined with surround sound and a huge picture size generated by your HD projector, gaming has never been more fun.

Whether you are young or old, a Playstation 3 is always a welcome addition to the entertainment setup. :)

If you read a lot then the Kindle is definitely something to consider purchasing!

        You know what’s funny about that is I’ve been longboarding and golfing with my Flip, and it ended up being the dog that destroyed my first one :)

        Luckily I found another one brand new for $60 so it wasn’t too much of a loss at the time.

    Great list, Diggy. My uncle is CRAZY about his home theater. He has a high-end Sony Projector on a screen over 100″! It’s incredible, haha.

    And as you mentioned, a home theater is not minimalist at all. But it’s something that I would love to have in a house. Projector + Screen + High End 7.1 Speakers + Amplifier and Receiver.

    B&W 800 Series Speakers are where it’s at, Diggy. They are so expensive, but a man can dream. :)

    Mmmm… My two favorites are the 1TB external hard drive (I need a new one!) and the Kindle (I want one!).

    I’m kind of surprised that an iPad didn’t make it to the list! And for the record… I want one of those, too :)

    Oh, and… the projector would be pretty nice… And the spy pen is cool… And… just give me one of everything.

      Got the TB hdd which is very handy for backing up all my stuff!
      As for the iPad…well I’ve never had one in my hands so I guess I’d have to use it fist before I recommend it.

      The projector is one of the sweetest things ever. A couple of my friends have one and I just LOVE watching movies on it.
