From the day someone is conceived they begin to grow.
Growth is a natural process and takes place in all areas of life.

When it comes to personal development and personal growth, so many people reach a plateau and a level of comfort at which they remain and virtually stop growing. I don’t mean physically in size, but i mean in skills and character. The comfort I refer to is the excuses we make for ourselves.

EG:
“I don’t really mind I’m 30 kg overweight”
“I don’t mind that I don’t have money to do the things I really want. I don’t need that mercedes and vacation in europe, I’m happy with my uno and paid leave staying at home and catching up on sleep”
“I don’t mind that I don’t have a date every weekend, I love playing Starwars anyways”

Sound familiar?

The only way to grow is to push yourself beyond that level of comfort, experience hardship and failure, and conquer the failure. The only time you truly fail is when you give up.

In general people are scared of failure and rejection, yet it is exactly this failure and rejection that is the stepping stone to the next level, it is the process of growth.

I want to share with you a quote about failure:

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” – Michael Jordan

Here are my three steps to personal growth in any area and how you can push your comfort zone:

1-) Decide what it is that you want to improve on and what you want to achieve.

It could be your body, that you want to get into better shape or lift heavier weights and become huge.
It could be your finances or job, that you want more money or less hours of work or both.
It could be your circle of friends, do you have enough of them, or are you friends with the kind of people you want to be with?
It could be your love life, are you getting enough dates or meeting enough women (or men for the ladies)?

2-) Now that you have decided what area you want to grow in, (ie analysed the core problem of your situation) you need to take action.

You need to realise that nobody is going to change the problems in your life and YOU and ONLY YOU are responsible to change them. It’s your life and nobody should tell you how to live but also your life to enjoy.

You need to find some way that is going to force you to take action and stick to the plan to grow no matter what. If you have the discipline to take that action, for example getting up at 6 am every second morning to go for that 4km run before work so you can get your body in shape, then taking action is simply a matter of making a plan to grow in a certain area of your life.

For most people, this discipline hardly exists.
So that is why you need to create an incentive.
Maybe this involves you telling your friend about your plan to do a certain action for your personal growth every day and you do not do it you have to pay him $50 every day you do not do it.

Taking Action be going to the gym or going jogging, taking on an extra job to get more money, quitting your job to find a better one that is going in the direction you want or making a decision to go out 3 nights a week and approach at least 10 women every night you go out. Of course you need to choose your own personal areas that you want to grow in.

3-) Keep at it

If you have followed step one and step two, after time your plan of action will not be a challenge anymore and your growth from your previous comfort level becomes your new comfort level.

Unless you keep pushing your comfort zone, stepping out of your boundaries (even if it is baby steps at a time), you will reach that plateau and not grow anymore. In my opinion, when you stop growing while there is plenty of room and direction for you to grow in , you are not living up to your full potential and not living life to the fullest.

Now after reading this post there are two things you can do.
You can either think:
“Hey, this makes sense and sounds great” and then not take action and remain in your comfort zone
OR
you can TAKE ACTION, find an area of your life that you want to improve in or grow in, and make a plan of action to tackle it and push your comfort zone.

To finish I can give you a personal example.
One of the areas that I really wanted to grow in a few years ago was my social life and the girls I dated.
I was shy, scared of approaching or talking to a girl I thought was pretty and I had the belief that I could not get attractive girls, and for a long time I made excuses to myself not to approach a pretty girl when I saw one.

Credit

That all changed when I made the decision that I was going to change this area of my life. I made a plan to go out as much as I could every week, by myself or with friends, and just go out and talk to as many girls as possible.

Initially this was super scary, and I was really nervous about going out to a club by myself, thinking people would think I’m a loser going out by myself. It took a few months, first maybe one approach a night, slowly turning into more.

Successes started to come and my confidence started to build, and after two years I made leaps of progress.I can go out and talk to any and every girl I want to without being nervous or scared, it’s so much fun. Girls love it too!
I’m not saying this to brag, I’m just saying that by pushing yourself, and following your plan of action over a period of time, you will grow so much in any area that you apply this to.

I still push myself in this area, because I’m still wanting to grow my skill and knowledge.

TAKE ACTION STARTING TODAY!

1-) Decide what it is that you want to improve on and what you want to achieve.

2-) Now that you have decided what area you want to grow in, (ie analysed the core problem of your situation) you need to take action.

3-) Keep at it
