Successful people make decisions! |

This weekend I decided to have a really relaxing and productive weekend.
Since I’m going to go to Amsterdam in December for 3 months, I’m really motivated to build up an online passive income and am working hard at building sites and promoting them.
After working for a good few hours straight without interruptions, I took a break by watching The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. (I have all the Fast and Furious movies on dvd and have seen them many many times over, I love cars). The movie inspired me to write this post. Actually… it was more a line in the movie and it has very little to do with street-racing or drifting.
The line was:
“That’s what life is about. You make decisions and you don’t look back”
That got me thinking back to a really good book I read by David Deida ‘The way of the Superior Man’, where he explains that a real man makes decisions, whether good or bad. Learn from bad decisions. Progress can only be made by taking action and making decisions.
If you think about it, that is all that is holding you back from doing what you have always wanted to do…a decision. The decision to stop feeling sorry for yourself or to stop making excuses and to take action, to just go out and do it.
This does not just apply to men, it applies to women just as much. It’s like when someone asks you ‘Do you want to go to the beach or to the mall today’ and you just answer with ‘I don’t mind, either one is fine’.
Now that is not making a decision, that is allowing someone else to make a decision for you, even though you are fine with either option.
The thing with making decisions is that is is a conscious effort, often seen as ‘work’ and with decisions come responsibility. That is where the learning process comes in. People make mistakes. People who are really good at what they do have made hundreds of mistakes if not more, that is why they become so good. They make decisions, they take action, irrespective if the decision will work out bad or good.
I personally used to not like making decisions, and am working on improving myself to take decisions all the time and take action. I find myself wondering ‘what if this will go wrong’. The thing is, that is the only way to learn. If you want to learn to snowboard, the only way you are going to learn is to make the decision to go out on to the slope with your snowboard and go down that hill. There is a chance you may get it right from the first time, there is a chance you may fall on your butt for 3 days straight (speaking from experience here
), but by making the decision to take action, you are making progress and on your way to achieving success.
Making decisions and taking responsibility for them puts you ahead of so many people in the world who are allowing others to make the decisions for them.

You will see that they are all based around you taking action to change what you are not happy with in order to achieve your goal or definition of success. It means making a decision to follow your plan of action to gradually change your current situation, slowly chipping away at it day by day, until over time you transform into the kind of person you want to be.
So the next time you find yourself in a situation where you have a choice or someone asks you whether you prefer red or purple, don’t fall into the trap of indecisiveness. Make a decision, give an answer. Even if your decision is a bad one, it will allow you to learn from it, and to grow.
Make a decision to change something you are not happy with right now.
Don’t give up!
Have a Rockin’ day

Great post on decision-making and success. I’m one of those people who makes decisions really quickly. Sometimes this doesn’t go well but more often than not it works out just fine. Making decisions is definitely a key to being successful. The next step? Taking action…
Hey Dani!
I know what you mean by being impulsive and making decisions, sometimes it’s not always the best one. Nevertheless you learn from it and make progress to achieving your goals:)
Making a definitive decision to do something is important to making progress, but I find that deciding what NOT to do is even more important.
We all have dozens of opportunities and distractions at any given moment. Success in any endeavor comes from deciding not to do many other attractive options and focusing on one key idea.
Hi John!
Yes that is a very important point too, deciding to stay focused and not doing things that are unproductive help you make big leaps forward to reaching your goals.
Thanks for stopping by:)
Hi Diggy
I never used to like making decisions either but like you am improving. I think for me it used to be the having to be responsible for the decision once I’ve made it but I think sometimes now it’s harder for me not to make a decision so I prefer just to do it..because you still have to be responsible for not making a decision ..if that makes sense!
Hey Jen!:)
Yes, it seems you’re on the right path. Once you get into the habit of making decisions you can’t not make a decision, it just doesn’t feel right:)
Hey Diggy!
Awesome post. I love how you say that making decisions is literally taking responsibility. So wise… and it seems that being responsible for your life can be the most powerful, and scariest thing. But the only way to progress is to make decisions, and take the consequences and learn from them. Your post makes me want to make lots of decisions and learn from them!
Karen!!!!!
Hehe, glad my post inspires you to make decisions! Have an awesome day!!!
Hey Diggy!
You are right, making decisions is important, and making them fast is even more important. Give yourself a limited amount of time like 1 minute when you are facing a decision
Hiya Oscar:)
Thats a very good point, setting a time limit on making a decision. That will serve as a good way to force you to make a decision instead of postponing it until it gets made for you.

Diggy, love it! It’s all about being an active participant in your life instead of a passive participant. It’s the difference between creating your life and just allowing life to happen to you.
Thanks!
Hey Stephen!
Thats totally the message:)
Reading about it and applying it are two totally different things though!
Have a great day!
