It is time for adventure – right now

Would you like to do something different today, or this week, or this year?

Why not plan yourself an adventure?

Something crazy, something you always imagine doing or dream of doing but never have the courage to actually go out and do.

You know how people always like to talk about things they want to do, and they talk about it and talk about it, and it just never happens? I’ve done that with certain things, and I’ve decided to go out and do it.

For the last year or so my friends and I would always talk about how cool it would be to travel the world, or meet up in another city and get a place together and work and party. It was always that dream, that “one day” even though all of us really have the oppertunity to stop what we are doing right now, get on a plane, go to a new city and start living that dream.

I read an awesome post this morning about writing your own ending instead of being a slave to your job and chores. If you really are doing what you love every single day and you are living your life to the fullest, then it is not neccessary to change anything, but if you are like me and most people, having adventures and dreams that you wish one day you could do, then maybe it is time for a change.

Yesterday I booked my plane ticket to amsterdam for December this year.
Im going to go for 3 months and planning to meet up with my friend Glen. The idea is to live out our dream of getting a place in a new city, finding a part time job for rent and food (and focus on online projects) and have a ball meeting new people and going out partying.

I have to say it is not a totally new city for me since I was born there, speak the language and have visited it on numerous occasions with my family on holidays :)

We are going to do a 30 day challenge, which is something I have been wanting to do for a long time, ever since I heard about it really. It means that for 30 days, we go out every single night. Even if it’s just for an hour or two. The reason for doing this is to skyrocket our social skills and make lots of friends and meet lots of people.

We have big ideas of documenting this whole adventure via blog posts and videos to show other people it really is possible to follow your dreams and pack your stuff and move to another city and make new friends.

Glen actually asked me the question initially when I was talking about booking a ticket what I would do if he did not show up. I can tell you it would not be the adventure I had planeed, because I’m really looking forward to it, but I would still go nevertheless and make my own adventure. I’m pretty certain Glen would also do the same. (Don’t let me down Glennie ;) )

My biggest obstacle to doing this was always just the fact that I needed to go out and do it.
The money is not a massive issue because it costs around $1000 for a flight, and then $2000 to pay for the first 2 months rent, food and partying. Yes, $3000 is still a lot of money, but it is not an impossible amount, and you can save this within 6-8 months of work. Personally I paid for my flight with the money I made online doing affiliate marketing (selling other peoples products and getting comission for it). Work two jobs if you have to. All it takes is the decision to go and you can do it.

This is just my adventure I really want to take, maybe for you moving to another city for a few months is too extreme but maybe there is something else you really want to do but haven’t gotten around to?

Whitewater rafting, snowboarding, diving in tropical waters, seeing the rainforest, going to Tibet,a road trip around the country with a few friends, skydiving or bungee jumping…the list is endless:)

Stop wishing and thinking “One Day”.
Turn your dreams into reality and start planning that adventure!

    Hi Diggy,

It is great that you and Glen have made a commitment to go.

The only barriers in life now are old age and poor health. So many people keep delaying their life dreams until …. (fill with your favorite procrastination excuse).

The problem with delaying is that you might not make it that long. I have had so many family and friends die or get diagnosed with some serious illness in the last few years. One close family friend, was 18 months from retirement before dying from cancer. He had elaborate plans to get a motor home and travel around for the rest of his life, but never got that far.

The time to live is now. Sure you need to worry about your future, but I would rather have 5 or 10 great years now and be poor and destitute in old age, rather than squander the next few decades of my life doing things I don’t particularly like.

I know a rich older couple in their late sixties. They have serious money and could afford to do anything they want. In fact, they could have afforded it 20 years ago. The other day, one of them said they plan to start traveling in a few more years.

It is never too late to start, I guess, but how much can they enjoy in their seventies? I have a feeling they will never really travel.

    Hey Jen! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed the post, hope it motivated you to do something you’ve always wanted to do!

    Hey Stephen!
    You’re totally welcome.
Think of it this way, you may not have done everything you wanted when you were younger, but right now you still have many oppertunities to do what you want and if you don’t do them now in 10 years you’ll look back and be like “I wish I did xyz 10 years ago”
    :)

You remind me on a thought I had last night. I was thinking of new activities to try (especially outside). Now I will write them down on my todo list and try them soon.

I’d really like to join you and Glenn in december. I always wanted to visit amsterdam so maybe I will be there for a few days.

    Diggy!!

    Awwwsome post.

interesting that you said “Why not plan yourself an adventure?”… because i usually make my adventures unplanned.

i plan a destination – like a new city – but the rest is unplanned :)

we’re def meeting up in a big city a few years from now. methinks project new york ;)

amsterdam is your city – SO not an adventure. you are the BOWSS of amsterdam.

still, super respect for missioning and making it happen. specially with glenny ;)

man. you can make SUUUCH big things happen there. writing glen a mail now about the awesomeness that can happen.

    so jealous :P

jeeez dude. $3k is R24k – you’d have to be earning like R30k per month and live on morsels to save that in 2 months… haha.

then again. got something new going on that could guarantee that amount in two weeks. funking excited about it. i’ll rap to you on thurs.

    catch you thurs man. ownage.
