I know how tough life can be when you have bills to pay and you have no money. Jobs are hard to find, the economy is a mess and without money…it’s difficult to get by. I’m not going to make you a millionaire, but I’m definitely going to show you how to make some decent extra cash in only a little bit of your free time.

  • I’m not going to sell you on some get-rich-overnight method.
  • I’m not here to seduce you into buying products that promise to make you a fortune but don’t deliver.
  • I’m not here to push the latest gadget or magical software that will “make you money on autopilot”.

Although the information I’m giving you is 100% free, you’ll need $15 a month to pay for the essentials of your online business, like a domain name and web hosting. If that’s not acceptable to you, I dare you to show me which other business you can start with $150.

It’s been 3 years since I first got introduced to the concept of making money on the internet. I’ve tried almost everything, fallen for all the false “make money online” promises by guru’s that you see all over the web, and I’ve worked like a dog for months without seeing any real results.

Making Money Online

It’s not that difficult to make a couple of hundred dollars online. I could explain it to you in an ebook format of no more than 10 pages. However, the concept of a “free lunch” or super easy online money does not exist.

I want you to forget about any dreams or visions you have of making thousands of dollars by setting up a simple site and spending a week working on it. That will not happen.

The method to building an online business that I’m going to show you on this page will allow you to make a side income of a few thousand dollars a year, working on a topic you’re passionate about, in a spare 1-2 hours you can dedicate to this every day.

An extra $5000 (or more) per year may or may not be a lot to you. Either way, it can pay for some bills, pay for a tropical vacation or even buy you something you need, like a car.

The method I’m going to show you will help you to make that extra money, in as little as 1-2 hours per day. This means that you can keep your normal job while building up your online business. BUT… you need to be prepared to put in the work for as long as it takes to get there.

Extra Money

If you’re not dedicated to this, if you’re not going to take it seriously and if you’re not going to work at your online business every day (or as much as you can), then you are going to fail, so you may as well leave this page.

Just like in the real world, earning money on the internet takes hard, consistent work. Fortunately, I’m here to tell you EXACTLY what to do. You’ll have it easy…much easier than I had it and you won’t need to spend months figuring it out on your own.

Now you may be wondering if you’re good enough to pull off what I’m about to tell you?

Don’t worry, you don’t need to be very technical, have any knowledge about the internet or even be business-savvy to be able to do it. I’m going to show you every step of the way, and you’ll learn the necessary skills and tricks along the way.

The method is modeled around the same strategy that I’m using with this very blog, Upgrade Reality.

I mentioned in the beginning of this page that it’s been 3 years since I was introduced to the concept of making money online, and it’s been 3 years since I registered the domain Upgradereality.com. However, it’s only in the last 6 months that I’ve finally understood what it takes to:

  • Grow an audience by hundreds of new subscribers every month.
  • Build a real authority site and become an “expert” in your niche.
  • Set your entire blog up as a “sales funnel” while providing extreme value.

I’m going to show you how you can do the same. You’re going to have one website that you’re going to build into a complete “go-to” resource for your topic. You’re going to make it something you can be proud of, and something that’s going to help a lot of people while at the same time make you some decent extra cash on the side.

Enough talking, let’s get started!

Online Business Strategy

Step 1 – Pick a Niche You’re Passionate About

The first step is to find a niche (i.e. topic) that you’re passionate about and a keyphrase (related to that topic) that you are going to rank for in the search engines to eventually get loads of free, targeted traffic.

It’s incredibly important to choose a niche that you’re passionate about because you’re going to be writing about that niche for months if not years. Writing about something you don’t really care about just to make money is going to result in you burning out, running out of ideas or just losing interest. Trust me on this.

It doesn’t matter what your niche is because there are so many hundreds of millions of people online, it’s almost impossible not to find a few thousand people who share your passion and who will end up buying from you. But…to be smart you need to do some research to find the best possible angle (keyphrase). This will help you enormously in terms of growth and building a targeted audience, so it’s worth doing this properly.

Take a pad of paper and a pen, and jot done a couple of your passions that come to mind. Things like sports, arts, music, professions, fitness, healthy living etc. Whatever you’ve spent a lot of time with, whatever is a big part of your life or whatever you’re really interested in learning more about. Write it all down.

When you’re done, I suggest putting the paper away for 24 hours, and letting it run through your mind. The next day you’ll be able to decide for sure what you’re going to build your online business around, and you’ll most likely be very happy with your choice.

Now you need to do some research to find the keyphrase best suited for your niche, and the one you’re going to get your site to rank for in the search engines.

Watch this quick video below to learn how to do the keyword research before deciding upon your domain name.

Step 2- Registering Your Domain Name

(For step-by-step instructions how to register a domain, get web hosting and install WordPress, download this free tutorial)

Now that you’ve picked your niche and chosen a keyphrase, you’ll want to register a domain name to build your site on.

Keep in mind that you’re building a memorable and valuable site, so you don’t necessarily need to have your keywords in your domain name. Some of the biggest blogs and sites have short, catchy and very brandable names like: Zenhabits, Problogger, Copyblogger, Ubergizmo, Techcrunch etc.

If you can find a catchy name relevant to your niche, even better, but the most important thing is to choose something that sounds fun and is easy to remember. You will still be able to rank for your keyphrase, no matter what your domain name is.

Head over to Namecheap (best and personally preferred domain registrar), create an account and register your domain name. You’ll need to search if the domain you want is available (many catchy ones are already taken), and then you register it.

Namecheap Signup

I would recommend registering your domain for a minimum of 2 years, but if you can afford it, do it for 5 years. Reason being that search engines are more likely to trust and rank a site where they can see the owner is dedicated to working on it for multiple years and not just some scammy hit and run site.

Step 3 – Get Web hosting

(For step-by-step instructions how to register a domain, get web hosting and install WordPress, download this free tutorial)

Web hosting is a service you need to be able to put a site on your domain name. It’s server space that you rent to be able to host your files, images and articles of your website.

There’s not too much you need to know about it, other than you need to have it to have your website.

Since you’re only going to be building one (fantastic) website, web hosting is going to cost you only $5 per month.

Head over to Hostgator (best and personally preferred web hosting company), create an account and sign up for the ‘Hatchling’ hosting plan.

As soon as you’ve signed up for your hosting, you’ll get a welcome email with your 2 ‘Nameservers’. These are two addresses consisting of numbers that you need to add to your domain settings in your Namecheap account in order to link your domain name to your web hosting.

Step 4 – Install WordPress on your site

(For step-by-step instructions how to register a domain, get web hosting and install WordPress, download this free tutorial)

WordPress is a free platform that 99% of bloggers use. It simplifies and automates the process of posting content on your site and eliminates the need of programming and learning complex code. In other words, it’s a perfect solution for people who have little technical and computer skills.

Installing WordPress on your site is easy and can be done in a few minutes (follow the tutorial above). If you’re not too keen on doing it yourself you can send an email to your Hostgator support and ask them to install WordPress on your site for you (free of charge).

Step 5 – Your Blogging Strategy For Success

By the time you get to this final step, you’ve done all the ground work and you’re ready to start building up your online business. To do that, it’s best to follow a proven strategy for success…and the following strategy is the best and only one I’ve found to work.

It’s put neatly together in a book called 31 Days to Build a Better Blog, created by arguably the biggest blogger on the internet, Darren Rowse.

I can’t and won’t explain everything that you’ll find in Darren’s 31 DBBB guide, but I’m going to give you some good advice that’s personally worked for me with my blog and that will help you to make your blog successful:

Part 1 – Blog Design

An essential part of your online business is the design of your blog.

There are certain key elements that the blog should include:

  • Your design should be professional but clean and uncluttered.
  • Your blog should be set up in such a way that it keeps visitors engaged as long as possible.
  • Your blog should aim to convert as many visitors into email subscribers as possible.

Without these aspects of your blog design in place, you’ll place a serious handicap on your online business and you won’t get the results you want.

Part 2 – Content Creation

The second part of building your online business is to create a base of high-quality, core content that your visitors will find on your blog. The aim of this content is to be so remarkable and well-written that it instantly hooks your visitor, and gets them to subscribe to your email list, share your content with their friends and even buy your products.

Focus on quality and not quantity. 4 Excellent high quality articles will outperform 40 crappy ones, and will be more beneficial to both your readers and your online business.

You want to become the authority in your niche, you want to be seen as an expert. That’s why you should strive to write long and very detailed articles around all the aspects of your niche.

You should include an affiliate link to a relevant and helpful (very important) product to as many posts as you can, but focus on making the article as valuable as possible without pushing any products. If you can manage to add a relevant product affiliate link somewhere in the body of the article or as a ‘P.S.’ below the article, then that’s great.

Part 3 – Driving Traffic

The third part of building your online business is driving traffic (visitors) to your blog.

The best way to date is still through guest blogging, meaning you write an article and submit it to another popular blog, with a credit at the bottom linking to your site as the author. An average guest post can send anywhere from 50-1000 visitors to your blog, and that’s how you grow your subscribers.

In the Cloud Blogging course there are various other efficient ways of driving traffic to your blog.

Part 4 – Search Engine Optimization

The fourth part of building your online business is to optimize your blog and content for search engines, to rank as highly as possible for your keywords and keyphrases.

High rankings in search engines = Free Targeted Traffic

Therefore it’s imperative that you structure your blog in the correct way for SEO, and that you optimize every possible aspect of your blog for high rankings. Without going into too much detail, a basic SEO optimization checklist is:

  • Keyword in title tag
  • Keyword in meta descriptions
  • Keyword in H1,H2 and H3 tags
  • Keyword in “alt” and “title” tags of an image
  • Keyword as anchor text to your homepage in your footer
  • Keyword in the first and last sentence on the page

There is a lot more to SEO, but the whole process is covered in depth in the Cloud Blogging course.

Part 5- Monetization

The fifth and final part of building your online business is monetizing your blog.

There are various ways to do this:

  • Selling ad space,
  • Promoting affiliate products (getting commission for sales you refer)
  • Selling your own digital products (ebooks, video courses)

but the best way is to get visitors to opt in to your email list, using a service called Aweber and the set up a series of automatic follow up emails.

These emails you prepare in advance once (and set to send in intervals of your choice) and every new subscriber that opts in to your list will get put through the sequence. The idea is to make the follow up email sequence filled with valuable tips and information, while at the same time linking to product offers and your own products.

The more you tweak and refine your follow up email sequence, the more profitable your online business will become with every new subscriber that gets added to your email list.
