Someone showed me a music video of Kristina Debarge, a 20 year old girl who has just release her first single hit, and I felt inspired to make a post about very young, very motivated people who made it to superstar status because they were talented and followed their passions.

They all have in common that they discovered their passions at a very early age, and were lucky enough to come into contact with producers and other agents who reckognised their talents, and thus helped them on their journey to where they are now.

Chris Brown

Born May 5, 1989

Chris Brown (20) was born and raised in the small town of Tappahannock. He is one of two children. He gained his love of music when he was sent to stay with his Aunt in Arkansas, he and his younger cousins would perform in local talent shows. He was influenced by the artists his parents played on the home radio, such as Michael Jackson and Sam Cooke.

Before becoming a vocalist, Brown was interested in becoming a rapper, but began to notice his singing talent by age 11. By 13, Brown was discovered by a local production team who visted his father’s gas station searching for new talent. Brown began his recording career and moved to New York, staying there for two years.

Chris Brown is a Grammy Award-nominated American R&B and pop singer, dancer, and occasional actor.

His self-titled debut album spawned four successful Top 10 and Top 20 hits in the United States. To date, the album has sold 2.1 million copies in the U.S. and 3 million worldwide.

Rihanna

Rihanna was born on February 20, 1988, in a county in Barbados called St. Michael. She lived the life of a normal island girl going to Combermere, a top sixth form school. Rihanna won a beauty pageant and performed Mariah Carey’s “Hero” in a school talent show.

Her life changed forever when one of her friends introduced her to Evan Rodgers, a producer from New York who was in Barbados for vacation with his wife, who is a native. Rodgers arranged for her to go to New York to meet Jay-Z, CEO of Def Jam Records. He heard her sing and knew she was going to be big and for more than just one song. She was 16 when she was signed to Def Jam. Rihnanna’s debut album is out now. It’s called “Music of the Sun”.

Rihanna had sold over twelve million albums worldwide and has received several accolades, including the 2007 World Music Awards for World’s Best-Selling Pop Female Artist and Female Entertainer of the Year, as well as the 2008 American Music Awards for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist

Kristina Debarge

19-year old Kristinia DeBarge launches her career with the anthemic upbeat smash “Goodbye,” her debut single, now hitting at pop radio weeks before the official April 27th impact date.

Kristinia DeBarge carries on the tradition of her father James DeBarge, keyboardist and founding member of beloved Motown ’80s group DeBarge. Kristinia knew she wanted to be a singer at the age of three, but didn’t reveal her wishes to her family until she was twelve. To gage her passion, James DeBarge and Kristinia went to the studio and recorded a duet called “How I Feel Inside.”

Kristinia recalls. “Our session ended at 4am and my dad asked me after all those hours and after all that work if I still wanted to do this. I answered yes, and that’s how he knew I was serious about being a singer.”

Jojo

In the outskirts of Boston, Massachusetts JoJo grew up in a home filled with song.

Jojo was born on 20 December 1990.

“When I was two years old, I would sing nursery rhymes. I would do riffs on them and make them jazzy,” JoJo remembers. It was at this early age that she taught herself to interpret the pop and blues tunes she heard with her own distinctive and unique style.

Eager to perform in venues other than her living room, JoJo searched for her first big break. She found it in a small newspaper clipping that advertised an audition for CBS-TV’s Kids Say the Darndest Things On The Road In Boston. Her soul and passion left the producers speechless and she was immediately given a spot to perform.

I remember seeing Jojo on TV when I was still in high school with the track ‘Leave (get out)’ and she was just 13 when she starred in that music video!

Kanye west

Chicago-bred, soul sampling, producer wunderkind, Kanye West’s music is inarguably the most exciting thing going on in hip-hop right now. He is the man that helped make Jay-Z’s The Blueprint the soul-drenched nostalgic masterpiece that it was.

Kanye has always attested to the fact that he was an emcee before he got into producing, and it was only his startling success as a beat-maker that took him away from first love of rhyming.
