15 Reasons Why I Blog

Blogging is something I have really come to love. Today I want to share 15 reasons with you why I blog and these same 15 reasons are inspiration and motivation for you to start blogging if you are not already doing so.

You may wonder how or why blogging is relevant to self improvement or personal development. The answer to that question is quite simple. By writing and blogging you really learn a lot about yourself. You learn consistency, creativity, perfection, punctuality and you grow in ways you usually would not grow in at all if you did not blog or write.

Here are the 15 reasons why I blog

1.) Connect With Others:

I personally think that this is one of the greatest benefits of blogging and the internet world. Anyone is able to communicate and connect with people from every single country in the world. Through my posts and articles I have built up relationships and even friendships with people and bloggers from all around the world. If it weren’t for my blogging, I would never have come in contact with most of these people.

2.) Build a Community:

By blogging and having your own blog about a topic or niche that you choose, you start to build your own community. Through your writing and creativity you develop a readership. People who find your blog and like what you have to say will subscribe to your feed, meaning they get updates of new posts. Over time, you can build up a targeted following of thousands of dedicated readers who all interact with one another and help each other grow.

3.) Share Your Thoughts:

Every person on this planet is unique in some way or another. Your own blog allows you to express your personality, thoughts and knowledge in any way that you desire (Of course, if it’s offensive your readers will soon unsubscribe). This reason alone is enough motivation how you can stand out from all the other blogs. Be unique and be different. People like that and soon you will build up a massive following.

4.) Journey of Your Life:

This may not be a possibility for every blogger, but for me my blog is like a journal of my life. I write about self improvement, so everything that I learn, experience and observe is worked into my posts. Later, I will be able to look back at my posts and see how I grew over time.

5.) Personal Growth:

I mentioned earlier that blogging teaches me so much about myself. I have learned to be consistent, to not give up, to be more creative and to keep working hard. By having to come up with ideas to write about every week, I sometimes do some heavy research and soul-searching.

6.) Learn From Others:

The beauty about having a blog is that there is a lot of interaction with your readers. As you blog gets bigger, more and more readers will comment on your articles. You readers sometimes point out very interesting facts and even engage in lively (and friendly) debates.

I have certainly learnt a lot from my readers and from other bloggers like:

Jonny from thelifething DOT com who spent months working and living in Thailand and shares updates and beautiful photos of his travels.

Glen who blogs all about internet marketing on viperchill DOT com and his wisdom helps me a lot with the technical side of my blog.

Pat (smartpassoveincome DOT com) who has built up a very successful online business and shares his wisdom how to make money online.

7.) Build Up a Name and An Income:

Blogging is an excellent way to gain a lot of recognition from people all around the world. Once you become one of the leaders in your niche the word quickly spreads. It is possible to achieve a state of e-fame, being a celebrity among the blogging world and internet users. Blogging also has the potential to bring you anything from a side income of a couple hundred dollars a month to a full time 5 figure monthly income.

8.) My Own Business:

My blog is like my own business. It requires hard work to build up. What I put in is what I can expect to get out and just like having my own business, my blog has the potential to grow into a global one that is massively popular, brings in a respectable income and is able to help hundreds if not thousands of people.

9.) It’s Fun & Inspires Creativity:

I never knew how much fun writing could be. It always was a chore for me when I was in school and had to write essays as part of my overall grade. Since I started blogging I have learnt to love writing and really enjoy it. At the most random times I’ll come up with new post ideas and ideas for articles that would be really cool to write.

10.) Let’s Me Relax:

Blogging is a great way for me to relax. It allows me to escape the real world and get totally absorbed and sucked into my virtual world where I can create beautiful content for my readers and work on my own projects. It makes my head clearer to put all my thoughts on to paper in a structured and creative way.

11.) Help Others:

Blogging is not only a selfish thing. It can be one of the biggest mediums that you can imagine to help people. How else besides the television do you have the potential to reach hundreds of millions of people across the world?

By creating genuinely helpful content and giving value you will be able to help people in life-changing ways. An example would be just to motivate people or inspire them with your own energy to follow their dreams and passions. You could also create a method or guide that would teach people how to do something and get them started on their journey of freedom and independence.

This is the main reason that I have UpgradeReality.com. I would surely like to make some money off it because I have bills to pay, but it is not my primary motivation for writing and blogging. I really enjoy sharing my experiences and my failures so that other people can learn from it and get to know what I know much faster.

12.) Blog From Any Location:

Another beauty of blogging is the fact that that you are your own boss. No staff, no supervisors. Just you and your computer, and with internet access you can blog from any location in the world. How cool is that?

13.) Choose Your Own Pace & Time:

As a blogger you have the opportunity to choose when and where you blog. Initially it may start off as a hobby or a pastime activity. I started off spending a few hours a week but now I’m writing a post almost every single day.

14.) You Are Only Limited By Your Own Efforts:

There are literally almost no limits to what you can achieve as a blogger. There are real examples of bloggers making over $50 000 per month from their blogs and if they can do it, so can you. The more work you do and the smarter and harder you work, the more results you will see from your efforts.

15.) Everything You Blog About Builds On The Previous:

One thing that I like about blogging is the fact that once you write an article, it stays around for a very long time. Every piece of content you create builds upon your arsenal of knowledge, expanding it and making it more useful. A blog post that you create today might still be visited by many people for years to come. A post that you write today could change someone’s life for the better in 5 years time. Isn’t that an amazing thought?

To Blog or Not To Blog?

You may think that blogging is not something that you would enjoy and not something that you want to start with. I thought exactly the same when I started blogging and right now I really love doing it. (I hope that you can tell through the enthusiasm in my posts). I think that blogging is an enriching activity for anyone to do. If you don’t need to do it for the money, do it for the creativity and to make a difference in the lives of others.

Just in case you do not have any knowledge of how you would go about setting up your own blog, I created a step-by-step blogging tutorial that will help you create your own blog , with instructions and screenshots of every process. Everything is explained in fine detail and you hardly have to think for yourself. (It will take you approximately 2 hours to set up your blog from scratch).

    Diggy,

I’m a huge fan of your blog. I hope to one day get to where you are today! I feel the same way about growing as a person through writing. I too have become more disciplined as a person, while knowing I still have a ton of room for improvement.

Really a great blog. Congrats on your success.

    Thanks!
    Mike

    • Diggy

      Hey Mike!
Thanks for the kind words man! I was once too right in the beginning stages, just keep working hard and you will make good progress. You should be able to do it faster than me because it has taken me a long time to get to this level where I am today. Hopefully this year my hard work will allow me to grow much faster :)

      Cheers!

I agree with your list here. That are not a limited amount of reasons to blog. It’s fun and allows you to do anything your heart desires once you discover what that is in your heart and in your blog.

Hey man, writing was also a chore for me in school, but it is amazing how it turns itself around when you are writing about things that you are interested and motivated for. Being able to blog from any location and with my own management of time and pace is a huge personal benefit for blogging.
    Keep of the awesome posts!

    • Diggy

      Hey Mark!
Thanks for stopping by and cool to hear that you also went through the same process of learning to enjoy writing and blogging!

The hostgator offer is awesome and I would take you up, but I already have hosting, damnit! ;)

Another post oozed with value and the Diggy personality.

Blogging definitely involves more than just writing. What we value (i.e. freedom, expression, friendship) gets incorporated and we our made to grow — connecting within and connecting with others.

  • http://exilelifestyle.com Colin Wright

Blogging has definitely expanded my horizons as well, and helped me immensely with my own personal branding. It’s much easier to position yourself as an expert on just about anything if you can consistently write about it (intelligently) and show your development over time.

  • http://www.thewaythatyouwander.com Nate

It’s obvious how excited and enthusiastic about blogging. I think this has really contributed to how successful Upgrade Reality has been so far. I think all of these reasons are great, and learning from others is a big one that really caught my eye today. Without my blog, I would have never connected with other bloggers like yourself, who share so much knowledge with me. It’s a great thing.

      Heya Nate!
Yeah that seems to be one of the biggest reasons all bloggers love what they do! You get to connect with so many people from all walks of life in countries all over the world :)

  • Carmen

Great list. I think you’ve hit on all the major points that I can think of. I never imagined I would enjoy blogging as much as I do. It is amazing to be able to reach the world through this media. One day was particularly fun for me when I was in a bakery and someone was asking about my website, another customer overheard and shouted, “Oh my god! You are NuNomad! I read you all the time”. I did feel like a celebrity for a moment. Cool

    • Diggy – UpgradeReality.com

      Hey Carmen!
Thanks for stopping by! Haha, nice that you have the same feeling. I also never thought I would enjoy it but that changed so much once I started writing! I haven’t had anyone recognize me in public yet :)

  • Positively Present

Great post on blogging! I blog for almost all of the same reasons you do and it really does a lot for me in terms of connecting with others and inspiring me to be a more positive person. Thanks for sharing your insights!

    • Diggy – UpgradeReality.com

      Dani!
You’re welcome miss, thank YOU for leaving a comment:) Have an awesome day!

  • Corydalis

thank you that you put all together the reasons :)

I was also thinking how having a blog changed me – I have it since October 2008. I really like the way I build my life after that. I started to read blogs, then I had my own, and from that point, it helped me to interact with a lot of interesting people – is a way to select people around me, to get credibility from the people who doesn’t know me yet – by reading about the projects I am involved in.

    • Diggy – UpgradeReality.com

      Hey Cory!
I’m glad to hear that you also have a blog and enjoy writing! It’s an awesome experience! One suggestion I have for you is to move away from the free wordpress blog and get your own domain. You will be able to build a much more popular blog and eventually make good money from it. :)

  • Eduard @ Ideas With A Kick

    Hey Diggy,

I should write my reasons down as well. I’m fully aware of some of them, but I can become more aware of others. Anyway, your post proves blogging can be a very fulfilling activity, which can answer a lot of needs. Especially if you blog about stuff you believe in. No wonder it’s getting popular! :)

    Eduard

    • Diggy – UpgradeReality.com

      Eduard!
Happy to hear that you enjoyed the article! Keep on blogging and writing lots of articles and you’ll have a popular blog in no time!

  • http://www.viperchill.com Glen Allsopp

    Hey Diggy,

Great points. I can definitely relate to all of them but the last is my favourite. I like that growth in blogging, is very clear.

In life, we can be struggling through a plateau and not know we are really growing when actually we are. With blogging, the feedback is pretty much instant (stats, subscribers, comments) and you can build from previous successes.

    Nice job, bro.

    - Glen

    • Diggy – UpgradeReality.com

      Heya Glen!
Glad you liked the post man! You have a lot of experience in blogging and I love learning from you!

  • tony ramirez

These are all great! Some of these reasons are also why i blog. The cool things about blogs being personal is that, the person behing the blog is real and speaks from the heart, just like you do on here.

    • Diggy – UpgradeReality.com

      Hey Tony!!
Yeah that is another thing, a blog is so personal. So even though it is about a topic, the personality of the writer always shines through in the posts. Thanks for stopping by :)

  • http://www.reachourdreams.com Jen

I love this Diggy. I have fallen in love with blogging too and it is great to hear all the things you love about it, it echoes a lot of my thoughts! I can’t imagine life without it now.

For anyone reading and thinking about starting a blog, Diggy’s offer of help is great – take it! It will help enormously!

    Jen

    • Diggy – UpgradeReality.com

      Heya Jen!
Yeah I know how much you love blogging! It’s great that you are so passionate about it! Keep on writing and learning and you’ll have a popular blog soon!

  • http://www.2knowmyself.com Farouk

for me it started as a hobby then it became an online business!!

    • Diggy – UpgradeReality.com

Yeah your site is pretty popular, good to hear you are making money!! :) Thanks for stopping by!

  • http://www.betrulyhappy.com Faizal

    Hey Diggy,

Good post here. Blogging relaxes me too. I’ve liked writing but to share my writing with the world gives me a great feeling. Glad you’re trying to help people start their own blogs. Someone is going to owe their success to you buddy.

    • Diggy – UpgradeReality.com

      Hey Faizal!
Happy that you enjoyed the post! Yeah I wish I had someone to teach me when I started out. It literally took me a year to figure out all the basic stuff before I could start blogging in a way that it would get some attention from other people :)
